Last night in White County our Lady Indians Softball Team beat White County's Softball Team for our first EVER Fast Pitch Region Championship! (Correction - Second Ever, we won our 1st back in 1997 - so it has been 28 years) It wasn't easy. It was a pitch by pitch brawl for 9 innings with our girls winning 3-2. Ava Estes led us off in the top of the first with a "SMASH" hit to right field. We moved her along with a sacrifice bunt by Cadence Ivey, but we were unable to plate the run. Ava Abernathy had a hit in the 2nd inning, but again we were unable to score. In the 6th inning we were finally able to break through with Ella Waters leading off with an infield single. Tia Sparks moved her over with a beautiful sacrifice bunt, and then Ava Estes delivered a "SMASH" double scoring pinch runner Abbie Kate Webb for a 1-0 Lumpkin lead. Unfortunately, the Warriors tied it in the bottom half of the 6th inning. It stayed tied that way, tense, everyone on edge, hanging on each and every pitch, until the top of the 9th when Riley Dyer delivered a hit to center. Then Aubrey Woodson stepped to the plate and calmly delivered a HR over the left field fence for a 3-1 lead! The Lumpkin fans were a sight to behold, only a prelude of what was to come. In the bottom of the 9th, the Warriors had three hits scoring one run and would have scored another if not for a heads up play by Ava Abernathy throwing the runner out at home! Brooklyn Estrella put the nail in the Warriors' coffin when she stabbed a scorcher to the hot corner and threw out the White County runner to end the game. Purple (and black uniforms) pandemonium broke out! INDIANS WIN 3-2! History was made, and a beautiful full moon shone down on our team's victory! What a perfect night!
