LCHS Rifle Team Senior James “J.T.” Wright has done it again. For the second year in a row he earned the title of the State of Georgia Male State Champion for the USA Shooting Junior Olympic Qualifier in both Smallbore and Air Rifle. Any rifle competitor can register to participate in the qualifier matches. Participants must achieve a set score to qualify for the Junior Olympic Match. The State Champion title is given to the male and female that achieve the top scores in each discipline in each state. Those designated as the State Champion receive an automatic invitation to participate in that year’s Junior Olympic competition in Anniston, AL from April 8th-13th. Wright received this designation after achieving success in two other national competitions. In the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) Postal he finished 2nd out of 419, a 3x10 three-position match, in the first round with a score of 298. He finished 4th out of 238 in the American Legion Postal, a 3x20 three-position match, first round with a score of 595. Postal matches are completed at a home or local range and then the targets are sent to CMP for verification and results. Wright received a second-round invitation for both matches. The LCHS team also received an invite to the second-round of the CMP Postal. Which members will participate is being determined, at this time.
