Lumpkin Rifle Defeats Mays HS in Sectionals Match

LUMPKIN RIFLE DEFEATS MAYS HS IN SECTIONALS MATCH

The LCHS Rifle Team completed the first match of the GHSA playoffs with a win against Mary Persons High School by a final score of 1124 to 1097. The Sectionals match was held at Lumpkin’s home range on Tuesday, February 24th. The Indians took an early lead in the match when they finished eleven points higher in the kneeling position, 384 to 373. Mary Persons tried to stay in the match by only scoring one point lower than Lumpkin in the prone position, 390-389. Lumpkin assured the victory when they shot fifteen points more in the standing position, 350-335. Lumpkin senior James “JT” Wright led the team and match in scoring with a final score of 294. Junior Liam Kearney followed with a score of 279. Finishing in third for the team was Senior Joey Dechant, score of 276. Sophomore Ivy Stowers was fourth in the scoring with a 275. Sophomore Makayla Prosser finished up the scoring with a 274. The team will take the next step to reach the GHSA Riflery State Championship by travelling to Mays High School in Atlanta. The match will take place on Tuesday, March 3rd at 12 noon.
